Famous martial arts choreographer and filmmaker YUEN Woo-ping (1945, China) comes from a true film family, with six of his ten siblings also working in the film business at an early age. His father, an action choreographer and occasional actor, taught him kung fu. First working as a stuntman and choreographer, his directorial debut came in 1978 with Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow. In that same year Drunken Master followed, innovatively blending martial arts with comedy and launching the career of Jackie Chan. Besides being one of the most successful and influential figures in Hong Kong’s action cinema, Yuen also achieved huge successes in Hollywood, working as an action choreographer on The Matrix trilogy and Kill Bill films, improving the standard of fight scenes everlastingly. In 2019, Yuen received a Lifetime Achievement Award at New York Asian Film Festival.
