Peter Sellars

Peter SELLARS (1957, Philadelphia, USA) is famous for being a controversial stage director. His roller-coaster ride of a career began while he was still a student at Harvard University in the late 1970s, when he became director of the Boston Shakespeare Company at age 25 and of the American National Theater at the Kennedy Center in Washington at 26. His favourite conceit has been to uproot classical operas and transplant them to contemporary settings. Recently he initiated a series of eight ‘New Crowned Hope’ films to respond to the 250th birthday of Mozart.
