Lee Kwangkuk at IFFR
A filmmaker with writer's block is given stories by a fun-loving waitress in exchange for night-time overtime. Full of the pleasure of telling stories and causing confusion. Debut film from Hong Sang-Soo's assistant is bound to be lauded for its unique sense of humour.
A Matter of Interpretation
In his playful and humorous second film, Lee demonstrates his narrative talent, if only by not getting lost when he allows his characters (including pushy detectives and unemployed actors) to interpret each other’s dreams. Once again, we can describe the former assistant to Hong Sang-soo as his sorcerer’s apprentice. Nominated for The Big Screen Award
A Tiger in Winter
A film with an ideal title for IFFR, naturally. Festival favourite Lee Kwangkuk (Romance Joe) serves up a delicate, tragicomic romantic story about a listless writer who is thrown out by his girlfriend and then comes across his former lover (a wonderful role for Ko Hyunjoung). Meanwhile, an escaped tiger roams Seoul.
