László Ranódy

Lázló RANÓDY (1919-1983, Hungary), was a director and writer mostly active between 1950-1980. He received his PhD in film law at the Péter Pázmány University and then worked as an assistant director and set designer for Independent Stage (Független Színpad). Later, he was director of Sarló Film, a film production company, and became artistic director of the National Film Making Company. During his lifetime, Ranódy received several prizes including the Kossuth Prize, Merited Artist, Distinguished Artist and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Drama of the Lark (1963) entered Cannes Film Festival in 1964 and it was also here, for his film Skylark (1963), that actor Antal Páger made film history as the first Hungarian actor to win the Golden Palm. Nobody's Daughter (1976) is part of IFFR's 2024 Cinema Regained programme.
