Joaquim Pedro de Andrade

Joaquim PEDRO DE ANDRADE (1932-1988, Brazil) studied Physics in Rio de Janeiro. He attended the school's filmclub and it was here where he started experimenting with filmmaking. He started working as an assistant director, and made his first own film, The Poet of the Castle, in 1959. Each of his films were made within the borders of Brazil and tackles a distinctly Brazilian subject, from Carnival to the modernist motif of cannibalism.
