Jean Renoir (1894 +!+ 1979) was born in Paris as the son of the famous Impressionist painter Auguste Renoir. He grew up in a household which encouraged creativity. After studying philosophy and mathematics and the turbulent events of World War I, Renoir started making films. His oeuvre, which covers 35 years, is regarded as the greatest that the cinema has ever produced and La règle du jeu (1939) is seen as his masterpiece and one of the best films of all time.
