Helen Levitt

Helen LEVITT (1913, USA) is an American documentary photographer. Her earliest photographs date from 1938. She published her first book, A Way of Seeing, with an essay by James Agee, in 1965. Except for a short stay in Mexico, in 1941, she has never left New York. Her work has been exhibited in several museums around the world and during the Dokumenta X. In 1987 a book was published with the same title as her film from 1948. In that same year with Loeb, Agee, Sidney Meyers and Richard Bagley, Levitt also contributed to the film The Quiet One.
