Maria Caruana Galizia runs Candle & Bell, a Gateshead-based production company. She produced ShortFLIX2 for Sky Arts and CreativeUK. She is in development on Marwell by Benjamin Bee, supported by the BFI and Venice Biennale Cinema College, and Soon We Will All Be History Here by Saeed Taji Farouky supported by Torino Script Lab, Jordan Film Fund and AFAC. Maria has produced 15 short films including the RTS NE award winners They Live In The Forest, They Are Extremely Shy, and She Lives Alone, the BAFTA long-listed Mordechai and the BIFA long-listed A Six And Two Threes by Andy Berriman.

Candle & Bell is an award-winning production company founded in 2013, named one of the TOP 50 Emerging Creative Companies by Creative England. The company produces feature films, TV and audio projects, as well as commercial content. Candle & Bell produces work across different genres, with a focus on regional and diverse UK talent. In 2023 Candle & Bell was awarded BBC Small Indie Fund to support the development of comedy projects, and is currently financing two feature film projects.
