Leave a legacy in five steps

Read the five steps to leave a legacy.

Step 1: State your wishes

Questions that help identify your wishes: Do you know who you want to name as your heir? Do you want to leave (part of your) money or goods to one or a number of charities? How do you want to bequeath? Make a choice whether to name IFFR as (co-)legatee or as (co-)heir. A notary can advise you (see step 3).

Would you like to include IFFR in your will and dedicate a specific purpose to your estate? Make an appointment with us so we can choose a suitable destination together. You can reach us via [email protected]

Step 2: Choose an executor

It is recommended (but not mandatory )to name an executor in your will. The executor will settle your estate. For example, a close friend or a notary can be an executor. Always ask the executor in advance if they can and want to actually perform these duties. If you do not appoint an executor, the settlement of your estate is the responsibility of your heirs.

Please note IFFR cannot act as executor for the settlement of your estate.

Step 3: Establishing your wishes

Always have your wishes recorded by a notary. Your own handwritten statement is not sufficient. You can have a notary draw up a will or do it online at www.nunotariaat.nl.

With a notary, you discuss your wishes and draw up your will. The notary explains the legal aspects and you can contact the notary with all your questions. Afterwards, the notary compiles a draft that you can read at home. If you are satisfied and your wishes are well expressed you make a follow-up appointment to sign the will.

Step 4: Sign the will

When everything is satisfactory, sign the will. Once you have signed the will, you will receive a copy. The notary keeps the original and registers the will with the Central Register of Wills in The Hague. This way your will can always be found and retrieved after your death. You can have your will changed by the notary at any time.

Step 5: Let IFFR know

If you have included IFFR in your will, you can let IFFR know (if you wish). This way we can thank you and inform you about IFFR and get you involved in the festival.
