This extraordinary film mixes cinematographic ingredients from his very different sources of inspiration: science fiction, horror, camp and avant-garde are interwoven into a bizarre and intriguing concoction.Narishima is director of a factory, the Central Service Company, where brain operations are performed on people in order to sell the changed people as products: people without memories who can serve as slaves. Narishima's latest product is a 'Pinocchio', a slave who can operate as husband and who is only programmed for sex.The film follows the vicissitudes of 'Pinocchio _964' who is bought by the wealthy and greedy woman 'Lovely Miss A'. Pinocchio does not meet to her expectations completely and is thrown out onto the street, where he starts to roam the city. Narishima has however programmed him very tightly, so he tacks awkwardly through city life. During his wanderings he meets Himiko, a girl with no memory. They stick together, but evil is still lurking. In the underworld, Narishima has taken measures to have the unsound Pinocchio destroyed.A striking element in the film -- which is set entirely in a very weird future world -- is that it also includes a number of excellent scenes shot spontaneously in the street; thereactions of passers-by to Pinocchio have been used in the film. The film has a number of insanely horrific moments in which bodies turn to boiling masses, but also subtle and still moments.
