Ico Abréu

Filmmaker, architect, visual artist, production designer and screenwriter. His work has been influenced by environmental and social issues, becoming part of the most important environmental and social movements of recent decades in the Dominican Republic. As an audiovisual producer/director, he has produced TV for more than 20 years, and has ventured into the documentary, fiction and experimental genres, exhibiting audiovisual art both locally and internationally.

Ico is also a part-time professor at PUCMM, where he teaches in the Architecture and Film majors and has been a professor at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Likewise, he is a teacher in the INTEC Film Program. His teaching work has earned national and international recognition, including PUCMM Meritorious Professor 2011. As a Fulbright Scholar, he has taught at the University of Cincinnati (USA), the Technical University of Istanbul (Turkey), and the Maha Sarakham University ( Thailand).

Ico has exhibited experimental audiovisual art projects in Dominican Republic and USA, and his work has recently been awarded at the Visual Arts National Biennial of the Dominican Republic. He has written/directed several short films, he has co-produced, designed and performed in several Dominican films. Ico has been a speaker in his native Santo Domingo, in the United States, South America and Asia. His research interests are cinema and space, as well as sustainability and resilience. He is currently working on his first feature film.
