Gema Arquero
Gema is a Barcelona-based producer. She founded the production company Debut films in 2023. After producing Girlfriends and Girlfriends - a lesbian comedy created among friends and outside the industry, that went far beyond the LGTBIQ+ niche and had a great tour on festivals and good box office - she felt the need to create this company in order to professionalise these sort of projects. She has produced one short film and a feature film, and is actually developing two feature films which will go into production in 2025.
Debut Films - Spain
Debut is an independent production company based in Barcelona, founded in 2023 by Gema Arquero. It was born from the need to give voice to close creators and accompany them from the margins and into the film industry. Debut focuses on producing fiction projects considered, many times, on the fringes of the industry: debut films and films directed or led by women and LGTBIQ+ people. Debut prioritises diverse narratives and focuses, above all, on the queer community. However, Debut wants to reach a wider audience, proving that these voices also have a place and interest beyond the niche.
