Red Rocket

With his tail between his legs, Mikey Saber (Simon Rex) looks up his ex-wife in Texas. She never wanted to see him again, but now he’s begging her for a place to sleep. For seventeen years, Mikey had been a pretty successful porn star in Los Angeles, but those days are gone now. He’d rather settle for a normal job; or, if that’s not possible because of his past, maybe dealing hash.

Sean Baker has already proven – in films such as Tangerine (2015) and The Florida Project (2017) – that he has a sharp eye and a lot of love for the flip side of America: the place where dreams grow on barren soil. Mikey is someone who keeps on making the wrong choices and having to bear the consequences. But this doesn’t stop him from trying – and failing. With a brilliant lead role for former MTV DJ and party animal Rex, the witty, tragic Red Rocket drags the audience down all of Mikey’s wrong turns.
