BoostNL

On the Edge of the Lake

The adopted Soo-Ji (15) and her brother Manuel (17) make a striking appearance among the blond and blue-eyed people in the Dutch village they live in. While Soo-Ji feels part of the community Manuel struggles with his identity, which has an effect on their whole family. Soo-Ji initially does not understand Manuel's frustration, but slowly she begins to discover a part of herself she denied for a long time.

What have you achieved so far with the BoostNL programme?

We met several amazing professionals during BoostNL at the Netherlands Film Festival. We had a great feedback session with script editor David Pope about our project, this really helped us to take the next step in our development. The BoostNL programme made us more aware about the project and our special features. This helped us to summarise and pitch our feature film in a clear and enthusiastic way to other film professionals. Besides this we started to think about the marketing of the film and how to position it.

What would be your ideal next steps for your project?

Meet potential co producers and sales agents (aimed at first female directors) who love the story as much as we do. We want to apply for production funding at the Netherlands Film Fund upcoming year and for this application we need to attach all our potential partners.

We also would like to talk to directors who have worked with (teenage) non-actors, like Lukas Dhont.
