Six fiction and three documentary projects begin talent development trajectory
Over 150 plans were submitted for the first edition of the Videoland Academy. Together with Dr. Script, Videoland announces the makers of selected for their new talent development trajectory – consisting of six fiction plans and three documentary series.
Antoinette Beumer (Head development fiction and documentary RTL and director):
"The overwhelming number of applications has shown how many talented new filmmakers there are in the Netherlands and that these makers cannot wait to develop their ideas and show them to a wider audience. The projects we have selected are innovative and tell their own story. This promises to be a great start to the first edition of Videoland Academy."
Grounded Sci-Fi selection (fiction)
From romance and politics to thriller; the variation of the selected fiction projects that fall under the category Grounded Sci-Fi demonstrate an impressive diversity. Within this theme, the makers fantasise about technological developments – biological and societal – which depict a different side to the Netherlands.
Videoland Academy has selected the following makers to develop their Grounded Sci-Fi projects:
- Leon Golterman – Deepfake
- Timo Ottevanger, Edson Da Conceicao, Paul de Vrijer and Wladimir van Heester – De Sterf Show
- Jan Verdijk – De Indringer
- Bodil Matheeuwsen – Dagen dat ik je vergeet
- Daan Windhorst and Ivo van Aart – Echo’s
- Jan-Willem de Kraaij and Jan Veldhuizen – Uit het Niets
True Crime selection (documentary)
The subject matter taken on by the three selected True Crime projects is striking. Given the sensitive nature of the topics and in order not to hinder the development of the documentaries, Videoland Academy will not announce the topics of the True Crime productions until a later stage.
Videoland Academy has selected the following makers to develop their documentary series:
- Flynn von Kleist
- Loretta van der Horst
- Roel Leijten
The selected makers will meet one another during the Videoland Academy Workshop, taking place during the IFFR Pro Days on Tuesday 28 January. The makers will learn how to best present their plan, including when presenting to the producers who they will encounter during later stages of the Videoland Academy and with whom they may be connected to realise their projects.
