Memento Films International has picked up international rights to Tiger Competition entry The Sky, the Earth and the Rain (El cielo, la tierra y la lluvia), the feature debut of Chilean filmmaker José Luis Torres Leiva. The film was supported by Rotterdam’s Hubert Bals Fund.
'This film is part of the natural evolution of José Luis’ direction,' commented producer Elise Jalladeau, who will be absent from IFFR following the birth of her son. 'He has developed a very strong and personal vision. I am very proud but at the same time but I’m not very surprised because it is pretty much in the logic of what he has done before.'
At IFFR 2006 Leiva presented the short documentary Women Workers Leaving the Factory.
'Memento were the only sales agents that I proposed the film to,' she continued. 'I really wanted to work with then on this film particularly as it fits very well into their line-up.'
Earlier, Memento acquired rights to Wonderful Town by Aditya Assarat (Thailand) and Eat, for This Is My Body (Mange, ceci est mon corps) by French-Haitian filmmaker Michelange Quay. NC
