Kunsthal Rotterdam and International Film Festival Rotterdam join hands for the second time for one of the loudest combinations of the year: MASH-UP! on Friday 30 October 2015. The evening will not be a repetition of last year, but will centre around the same ol' formula of 'cool film + cool expo + cool party'. And surprise: this edition, renowned North Sea Jazz Festival programmes the music acts of the evening.
Film: Louder Than Bombs
The film that kicks off the evening is Louder Than Bombs by Joachim Trier, whose Oslo, August 31st (2012) and Reprise (2007) were shown at IFFR. An upcoming exhibition celebrating photographer Isabelle Reed (Isabelle Huppert) three years after her untimely death, brings her eldest son Jonah (Jesse Eisenberg) back to the family house - forcing him to spend more time with his father Gene (Gabriel Byrne) and withdrawn younger brother Conrad than he has in years. With the three of them under the same roof, Gene tries desperately to connect with his two sons, but they struggle to reconcile their feelings about the woman they remember so differently. (Language: English. No subtitles.)
Expo: Keith Haring
After the film, the expo Keith Haring - The Political Line will be opened exclusively for MASH-UP! visitors. The expo shows the life and work of one of the most influential American artists and activists of all time, Keith Haring (1958-1990), in the shape of 120 artworks, that show an underexposed side of this world-famous protege of Andy Warhol.
Party: DJs Phil Peoples and Thelonius, and Dominic J. Marshall Trio
All good things come in threes. IFFR and Kunsthal Rotterdam have a musical partner in crime: North Sea Jazz Festival will take care of the party line-up! Dominic J Marshall Trio will perform after the film, DJ's Phil Peoples and Thelonious will keep the party going.
