After the credits roll, the conversation starts. This edition, we’re going in-depth with big festival guests in our IFFR Talks programme. American musician and filmmaker Amanda Kramer will dive into her bold and eccentric oeuvre – shown in the Focus: Amanda Kramer programme. Filmmaker and actor Mathieu Amalric discusses his career on either side of the camera with festival director Vanja Kaludjercic. Also in conversation: Rachel Lang on her second feature film Mon Légionnaire, and Robby Müller Award recipient and cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom. Big Talk: Amanda Kramer

The spotlight is on American filmmaker Amanda Kramer. In a conversation with programmer Michelle Carey, she delves into her bold, eccentric oeuvre and two latest feature films (Please Baby Please, 2022 and Give Me Pity!, 2022), her distinct visual language full of pop-cultural references, and playing and breaking with conventional genres.

Big Talk: Mathieu Amalric

Primarily known as an actor, Mathieu Amalric prefers to view himself as a director. This year’s IFFR will pay attention to both roles, as he directed Hold Me Tight and acted in Tralala. Festival director Vanja Kaludjercic and Amalric will discuss the latter’s rich career on either side of the camera.

Big Talk: Rachel Lang 

As well as a filmmaker, Rachel Lang is an officer in the French army. In her second feature Mon Légionnaire, she interweaves these two worlds. Film curator Kiva Reardon talks to the director about army life and its depiction in her film.

Big Talk: Sayombhu Mukdeeprom

Thai cameraman Sayombhu Mukdeeprom, who won this year’s Robby Müller Award, speaks to moderator Joris Bulstra (NSC) about his cinematic language and structural choices in his work for filmmakers including Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Memoria) and Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name).
