Golden Globes for three IFFR 2018 films

Three films that will be shown during IFFR 2018, were awarded with Golden Globes last night in Beverly Hills. The majority of the guests were dressed in black in support of the Time’s Up movement, an initiative to support the victims of sexual harassment on film sets and in the workplace. Lady Bird, I, Tonya and The Shape of Water are featured in the Limelight programme, and were rewarded with several awards.

The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro was nominated in the category Best Motion Picture, Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Sally Hawkins) and Best Screenplay (Guillermo del Toro and Vanessa Taylor). The film won two Golden Globes: filmmaker Guillermo del Toro won the award for Best Director and Alexandre Desplat took the award for Best Score for The Shape of Water home.

Greta Gerwig was nominated for Best Screenplay for the film Lady Bird. She was rewarded with the award for Best Motion Picture in the category musical or comedy. Saoirse Ronan was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in the category Musical or Comedy.

Greg Gillespie’s I, Tonya received a nomination and a win as well. Margot Robbie was nominated for Best Female Lead. Allison Janny, who portrays Tonya Harding's mother, won the award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role.

Among the rest of the nominated films, there were even more IFFR films: Phantom Thread and The Florida Project. The film The Square by Ruben Östlund, which was shown during our MASH-UP! event last November, was nominated for Best Foreign Film. For a complete list of the IFFR-related nominations check below.
