Gilliam meets Svankmajer
30 January 2006
Gilliam meets SvankmajerIn front of a packed house, at 19:00 in Pathé 1 last night Terry Gilliam presented an unsuspecting Jan Svankmajer with a special IFFR publication of Svankmajer’s scenario for LUNACY. Gilliam, creator of the famous Monty Python animations, acknowledged that the Czech master animator was and remains a big inspiration on him. 'Jan’s films surprise me again and again. And I believe that I know a thing or two about Surrealism. He takes me – and you – on a journey through the mind and the heart. As well as the stomach and the arse. Places you have never been before.' Maestro Svankmajer kept his thank you short, preferring to let the film speak for itself. 'But,' he added, 'I hope LUNACY is good medicine against all the religious fanaticism plaguing the world at the moment.' The scenario is also for sale at the merchandise shop in de Doelen.
