At night, a constant stream of lifeless gang members and hooligans are wheeled into São Paolo’s mortuary. If there’s no room, the bodies are temporarily stored in the corridor or by the toilets. Unhappy, hard-working assistant pathologist Stênio is never bored when things get quiet because he can talk to the dead. When Stênio finds out his wife’s secret thanks to this paranormal gift, he unintentionally sets off a chain reaction of revenge, doom and disaster.

The Brazilian horror film The Night Shifter is a macabre quest for salvation with constant crime and howling sirens as its backdrop. Besides dismembered bodies and supernatural apparitions, it is mostly about Stênio’s dysfunctional family. How can he protect his children from the evil emanating from the afterlife, their violent city and their arguing parents?
