Strongly relying on the images, the electric music videos mark the shift from the linear narrative of the pop song videos to more abstract territories. Traditionally the classic pop video privileges the musicians as the pivotal point of attention heavily influencing the flow of the story, and making most of the videos produced today no more then moving backgrounds for the performance of the star. Contrary to the trend just described, the electric music video tries to and succeeds in taking the accent away from the band and to channel attention exclusively toward the marriage between music and images employing various strategies to visualise the music. Those strategies very often rely on the use of animations as well as the use of cinema-like images, and invariably on abstract images and/or movie sequences. Not being constrained in formats aiming at the promotion of the band's image, directors are left with greater creative freedom to develop original concepts and experiments with different film formats and genres. Moreover, the electronic music industry, and therefore electronic music videos, often occupy the boundary space between mainstream-like and independent production - this is just one more element that stimulates original and creative work.
