Preiss selected for this work several stills from amateur video fragments. While Preiss is a successful commercial film-maker, this work emerges from his fascination for the home-movie and amateur film, because of its authenticity and truth. Editing the stills as sequences one after the other, with rapid switches, he seeks the tension between still photographic images ('memory') and moving film or video images (that evoke the experience of a topical event). Jeff Preiss (1956) was educated as a film-maker in the 1970s and 1980s and made personal 'diary' and portrait films including Ludlow St Newsreel parts 1 and 2 (1986/86) and Wild Kingdom, also in several parts (1987). Cinematographer for commercials, music videos and the films of Bruce Weber (Let's Get Lost, 1988 and Broken Noses, 1987) and Rosa von Praunheim. Works mainly as commercial film-maker. Was a participant in Le Monde dans la tête at the Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris, 2000.
