A disgusting old fat man descends into a lugubrious laboratory. He looks more like an alchemist or a demonic magician than a scientist. With all kinds of revolting substances, he brews indefinable mixtures and experiments with ingredients, living and dead. As in a ritual, he dances around to strengthen the witchcraft. The film is without dialogue and tells its story purely and virtuously in a visual way. The technical precision with which the rotting and dripping laboratory is portrayed contribute greatly to the effect. (GjZ)
