In the village of Amanha Lundju a tree is planted to mark each birth. When a villager dies, such a tree becomes his soul. However more and more trees are cut down to satisfy the villagers' primary needs. Dou, a nomad, returns from the savanna. His twin brother Hami has just died. Dou has to take his place and live with Hami's wife and daughter. The young Saly, who was betrothed to Dou is insane with grief. When the forest rangers come from the big city, things get out of hand. The director hopes that his film will help make the viewer aware of the relationship between man and nature. It is a hopeful message from a Guinea Bissau subject to rapid industrial change.
