Hermann and several of his girlfriends survey and shift the boundaries of sexuality. The poetic Helga Aufschrey pines away for lack of love and develops feelings of hate for the world of her parents. She acquires a predilection for extreme solutions. In the provincial town Schwabing she watches on television with Hermann and her parents as a bar fight escalates into a real youth riot; a precursor to the rebellion in the sixties. Hermann is beaten up in Munich by a policeman and licks his wounds in the countryside. In the apparently sluggish village, he is ardently desired by no less than three women at once.In this year, the world mourns for Marilyn Monroe and Hermann Hesse and holds its breath because of the Bay of Pigs.
