Yanagimachi Mitsuo

Yanagimachi Mitsuo (1944, Ibaraki, Tokyo), after studying law, worked on several educational films and documentaries. In 1974 he founded the Gunro production company, with which he directed his first film, a documentary about a motorbike gang. His third feature, Himatsuri, marked his definitive breakthrough with audiences and critics. In 1986 Rotterdam screened a retrospective of Yanagimachi's work.
