Werner Herzog

Werner HERZOG, pseudonym for Werner H. Stipetic (1942, Germany) grew up in a remote mountain village in Bavaria and never saw any films, television or telephones as a child. He started travelling on foot from the age of 14. He made his first phone call at the age of 17. At school he worked nights as a welder in a steel factory to produce his first films. He started making short films in 1962. As a constant traveller, Herzog has filmed throughout the world, eagerly using different landscapes. Along with directing more than seventy fiction films and documentaries, he writes prose and directs operas.
