Walt Disney

Walt DISNEY (1901-1966, USA) developed an interest in drawing at an early age and attended courses at the Kansas City Art Institute and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. In 1919, he joined the Pesmen-Rubin Commercial Art Studio, where he met and befriended Ub Iwerks. Together, the founded Iwerks-Disney Commercial Artists, to little success. In 1923 he made the short Alice’s Wonderland. This would lead to a series of shorts called Alice Comedies and the forming of Disney Brothers Studio, which would later become The Walt Disney Company. The series ran until 1927, after which Disney and Iwerks Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. After finding out he didn’t own the rights to Oswald, he and Iwerks created a new character to replace him: Mickey Mouse. The character soon became an international hit and in 1932, Walt Disney was given an Academy Honorary Award for its creation. Following the success of The Three Little Pigs (1933), Disney began focusing on producing feature films, starting with the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which would earn him another Academy Honorary Award. After World War II, Disney began expanding his interests, creating Disneyland and television show The Mickey Mouse Club in 1955, and Disneyland Records in 1956. He passed away in December, 1966.
