Sydney Pollack

Sydney POLLACK (1934, South Bend, Indiana) started his career as theatre actor and drama teacher in New York. He made his debut in 1965 as director and received much critical and audience acclaim for his striking visual film style. His films have received 46 Academy Award nominations including three for Pollack for best director and two for best film. Out of Africa won seven Oscars including best film and best director. In 1985, Pollack formed Mirage Productions. With this company he has produced films like The Fabulous Baker Boys, Sense and Sensibility, The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain. Sketches of Frank Gehry is the first feature-length documentary he has directed.
