Sugii Gisaburo

SUGII Gisaburo (1940, Japan) is an anime artist and filmmaker. In the 1960s he became friends with Tezuka Osamu, and directed four episodes of Astro Boy (1963). In 1974, he directed his first animated feature Jack and the Beanstalk. For Night on the Galactic Railroad (1985) he was awarded the Ofuji Noburo Award at Mainichi Film Concours. Stormy Night (2005) was nominated for Best Animation Film at the Japan Academy Film Prizes. Together with Yamamoto Eiichi he directed the short film One Arm (2018), which premiered at Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
