Stan Lai

Stan Lai is a playwright and director held in high regard in Taiwan. His Performance Workshop theatre company, founded in 1984, enjoys international fame. In the company's productions, Lai makes grateful and widespread use of the improvisation techniques of his actors, who later played in films by Hou Hsiao-hsien and Edward Yang. Lai's feature début The Peach Blossom Land, attracted world-wide attention.
