Sonia HERMAN DOLZ (1962, Spain) studied at the Free Academy in The Hague under Frans Zwartjes. Her first feature-length documentary, Romance de Valentia (1993), received several international awards, as did Black Tears (1997). The Master and His Pupil was awarded Best Documentary at Tribeca Film Festival in 2004. Various retrospectives have been dedicated to the acclaimed filmmaker's work, including the International Film Festival Sevilla in 2005, Documenta Madrid in 2007 and Independent Film Festival Barcelona in 2008. Herman Dolz has also served as a jury member for international films festivals, including IFFR, Tribeca Film Festival and Guadalajara Film Festival. She has lived in the Netherlands since 1965.
