René Allio

René Allio (1924 Marseille - 1995 Paris) originally came to fame as a painter and set designer in theatre. He made his début in 1965 as film-maker with the full-length feature La vieille dame indigne, based on the novella Unwürdige Greisin by Bertolt Brecht. Brecht was also to remain an important source of inspiration in Allio's later features. He was also very interested in regional culture.
