Still: Where the Wind Blows
Philip YUNG (1981, Hong Kong) has been involved in film and television production since 1998, with one of his first jobs being a production assistant. In 2009, he wrote and directed his first feature film, Glamorous Youth. Despite its low budget, it was highly acclaimed as a stunning work, and received a Film of Merit at the 16th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards. In 2014, Yung wrote and directed Port of Call, which premiered as the closing film for the 39th Hong Kong International Film Festival. Port of Call landed many awards across Asia, including Best of Bucheon at the 19th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. It is also the only film in history to receive all of the acting awards (Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best New Performer) at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Port Of Call was also selected as the Hong Kong entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards. After that, Yung wrote and filmed Where the Wind Blows (2022), a Hong Kong epic based on the rise and fall of the notorious Chinese police detectives in colonial Hong Kong from the 1940s to the 1970s. It was selected for IFFR 2023.
