Peter Urban Gad

Urban GAD (1879-1947) is one of the pioneers of Danish cinema and alongside the likes of Sjöstrom and Stiller, he was one of the leading figures from the blossoming of the Danish industry: the period just before World War I. Gad has star actress Asta Nielsen to thank for part of his fame. He discovered her and she performed in many of his films (including Afgrunden (1910) and Engelein (1913)). He was married to her from 1912 to 1918. His films are characterised by a pure style and meticulous mise-en-scène.
