P. Petrov-Bytov

Pavel Petrov-Bytov (1895-1960), set designer and film-maker, had a major name in the Soviet Union in the twenties and thirties; his Pougatchev (1937) measured up to the work of other revolutionary film-makers such as Eisenstein and Pudovkin. His 1929 article 'We have no Soviet Cinema' was a fierce criticism of the effectiveness of revolutionary avant-garde film.
