Marja Helander

Marja HELANDER (1965, Finland) studied at the University of Art and Design until 1999. She has a background between the Finnish and the Sámi culture. In her photographs, films and video art, she engages with that complex identity and the Northern landscape. Her short Birds in the Earth (2018) won the Risto Jarva Prize and the main prize of the National Competition at Tampere Film Festival. The film also won prizes at NATIVE Film+Media Arts Festival in Toronto and Norwegian Short Film Festival and it screened at Midnight Sun Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival and IFFR.
