Marielle Heller

American filmmaker Marielle HELLER (1979, USA) started out as an actor. She studied theatre at UCLA and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She was selected as a 2012 Sundance Screenwriting Fellow and 2012 Sundance Directing Fellow. After working as an actor and screenwriter for theatre and television, she wrote and directed her debut film The Diary of a Teenage Girl, based on a comic book, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Festival. Her second feature, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, earned screenwriters Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty and her actors Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant an Oscar nomination. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019) is her third film.
