Luis Ospina (1949, Colombia) studied film at UCLA and has made many short and feature-length films, including Capitulo 66 with Raul Ruíz. He is also one of he founding members of the Cali Group, alongside Carlos Mayolo and Andrés Caicedo. He directed the fiction features Pura sangre (1982) and Soplo de vida (1999). His documentary features include Nuestra película (1993), La desazón suprema (2003), the mockumentary Un tigre de papel (2007) and It All Started at the End (2015). A complete retrospective of his films was shown at DocLisboa in 2018. From 2007 until his death in 2019, he was the Artistic Director of the Cali International Film Festival. Mudos Testigos (2023), selected for IFFR 2023, was released posthumously. Pura Sangre is part of the IFFR 2024 Focus: Chile in the Heart programme.
