Lino Brocka

Lino BROCKA (1939, The Philippines) worked as a missionary in a leper colony on Hawaii after studying English literature. Upon his return to Manila, he directed plays and worked for television. From 1970, he started making films, which soon brought him international recognition. Brocka was fiercely opposed to censorship in the arts and for that reason he was active in the Free the Artist Movement. Brocka died in 1991 in a car crash.
