Larry GOTTHEIM (1936, USA) established the Cinema Department at Binghamton University, State University of New York in 1969, the first regular undergraduate degree programme in the US devoted to personal experimental film and later video. Professor of Filmmaking and Film Aesthetics until 1998, Gottheim was Department Chair for much of the time. Major shows include Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Biennial, Berlin Film Festival, Festival of Independent Avant-garde Film at the National Film Theatre in London, Havana Film Festival, New York Film Festival, and many other museums and festivals in Europe, Canada and the United States.
