Lalit VACHANI (India) is a documentary filmmaker and university teacher who lives in Göttingen, Germany. His films have been shown at festivals in Berlin, Amsterdam, Marseille and Mumbai. Vachani was one of 10 international filmmakers commissioned to make films for the Why Democracy? TV series that was broadcast across 35 international channels. The result was his 2007 documentary In Search of Gandhi. The Men in the Tree (2002), the follow-up documentary to The Boy in the Branch, about the politics and ideology of the Hindu nationalist organisation, the RSS, is selected for IFFR 2023. He currently teaches courses on media and politics, the political documentary film, and documentary theory and production at the Centre for Modern Indian Studies (CeMIS) at the University of Göttingen.
