Khanzhonkov Studios

Studio Khanzhonkov was the first Russian film studio, founded in 1905 by Alexander Khanzhonkov in Moscow. Between 1909 and 1919 more than 100 films were produced here, which made it by far the largest Russian film studio at that time. In 1920, after the defeat of the Russian White Army, the studio and accompanying land were confiscated by the new communist regime, which meant the end of Studio Khanzhonkov. However Alexander Khanzhonkov created a new studio, which would later merge into Mosfilm, the legendary Russian film studio that would produce the films of Sergei Eisenstein and Andrei Tarkovsky and is nowadays referred to as the Russian Hollywood.
