Claude SCHMITZ (1979, Belgium) is a theatre director, screenwriter and filmmaker. He studied at the Institut National Supérieur des Arts du Spectacle (INSAS) and lives and works in Brussels. He was an associate artist at the Halles de Schaerbeek in Brussels, and his creations have been presented at, amongst others, the Kunstenfestivaldesarts, Théâtre National, Palais des Beaux-Arts and Halles de Schaerbeek. His mid-length film Le Mali (en Afrique) was awarded the Format Court prize at the Rencontres de Brive in 2016. In 2018, he directed his short film Rien sauf l’Été, which won the Grand Prix Europe at the Rencontres de Brive 2017. Braquer Poitiers/Carwash, his film released in October 2019, won the Jean Vigo Prize. Lucie perd son cheval/Lucie Loses Her Horse (2021) had its world premiere at the Brussels International Film Festival (BRIFF), where it won the Grand Prix of the National Competition.
