CHUNG Ji-young (1946, South Korea) is a screenwriter and filmmaker who began his career as an assistant director to Kim Soo-yong. He has also actively campaigned in his home country against the direct distribution of foreign films, as well as for efforts to establish a screen-quota system, and abolishment of the pre-censorship system. He has won numerous awards in his career, including the Kim Dae-jung Nobel Peace Film Award at the 2012 Gwangju International Film Festival, and most recently he was nominated for Best Director for Beullaek meoni (2019) at the Grand Bell Awards in South Korea in 2020, and the Baek Sang Art Awards in 2020. His most recent film The Boys (2022) was selected for IFFR 2023.
