Anca DAMIAN (1962, Romania) studied at the Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in Bucharest, where she majored in Cinematography and obtained a doctorate in Arts, Cinema and Media. In 1992, she started her film career as a cinematographer, after which Damian directed her first film Eminescu, truda întru cuvânt in 1996. Crulic – The Path to Beyond (2011) was her first animated feature film and the start of her trilogy on heroism. The film won more than 35 international prizes, including the Cristal for Best Feature Film Award in Annecy. The second part, the mixed-media animation film The Magic Mountain (2015), won awards at several festivals, including the World Festival of Animated Film Zagreb, the Ottawa International Animation Festival and the Amiens International Film Festival. In 2019, she premiered Marona’s Fantastic Tale in Annecy, which was followed by many accolades such as the Grand Prize for a feature film & Audience Award – BIAF 2019 and Special Jury Prize in Animation is Film Los Angeles. The Island was selected for IFFR 2022.
