Where are the festival locations?

Most festival locations are at and around Schouwburgplein, and thus within walking distance of Rotterdam Central Station. The only exception is LantarenVenster at De Kop van Zuid, which is easy to reach by metro and tram. From Rotterdam Central Station you can take metro D or trams 20, 23 or 25; exit at ‘Wilhelminaplein’.

For more information about timetables and planning your travel, you can visit the website RET.nl and the website 9292.nl. You can also visit our festival locations map.

How do I get to IFFR?

Many visitors will arrive at Schiphol Airport, a major international aviation hub located on the main railway line between Rotterdam and Amsterdam. The second largest, Rotterdam Airport, is a regional airport located close to the city centre. Rotterdam Central Station is well linked to international (high-speed) train lines to and from the UK, Germany, France and Belgium.

Arrival by plane at Schiphol Amsterdam Airport

The easiest way to get from Schiphol Amsterdam Airport to Rotterdam and back is by train. Schiphol Railway Station is located directly at the airport. Regular trains run four times per hour and take 50 minutes.

The high-speed line Intercity Direct runs between Amsterdam Central Station and Rotterdam/Breda. This train takes you from Schiphol Amsterdam Airport to Rotterdam Central Station in approximately 25 minutes. Please note that a supplement is required.

Train tickets and supplements can be bought online in advance, or bought on the spot from the yellow vending machine with NS logo (reservations not necessary). For more railway details please check NS.nl.

Arrival by train at Rotterdam Central Station

Rotterdam Central Station has good national and international connections. For national connections, plan your train journey via NS.nl, and check the latest travel updates before departure.

For international connections, tickets can be booked via NS International. Antwerp, Brussels and Paris have direct connections to Rotterdam via Thalys that runs approximately ten times a day. Eurostar offers direct trains from London St Pancras.

The high-speed line Intercity Direct offers the fastest connection (25 minutes) between Amsterdam Central Station and Rotterdam Central Station. For this journey a supplement is required on top of the regular ticket. Regular direct trains do not require a supplement and take 50 minutes.

Arrival by plane at Rotterdam The Hague Airport

Taxis are available in front of the terminal building. A city bus (RET bus 33) runs every 20 minutes to Rotterdam Central Station. From there it is only about 300 meters to the IFFR Professionals Centre in de Doelen, entrance Kruisplein 30. You can find the RET bus stop on the left leaving the airport terminal. Tickets are available online in advance, or from the driver (in cash). Timetable and rates available on RET.nl.

By car

Rotterdam is easily accessible by the A13, A15, A16 and A20 motorways. There are several parking options available in the centre of Rotterdam. For more information see parkereninrotterdam.nl.

How do I get around in Rotterdam?

The tram, bus and metro in Rotterdam are run by the RET. Tickets can be bought on the tram/train/bus. You can also use an OV-chipkaart, a reusable smartcard for travelling in the Netherlands. You can store credit in these cards to pay for your public transport travels as you go. OV-chipkaarten are available at RET vending machines and service points.
