Solidariteit met het Iraanse volk

Wij verklaren hierbij onze volledige en oprechte solidariteit met diegenen in Iran die opkomen voor hun fundamentele mensenrechten en de vrijheid van meningsuiting.

We call on the Iranian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release all Iranian filmmakers expressing their non-violent messages for peace, including Majid Barzegar. His work is strongly connected with IFFR, receiving Hubert Bals Fund support and competing in 2011 for the Tiger Award with Rainy Seasons – an intimate, unusual Iranian urban story on bored youth and inquisitive teenagers.

He was arrested for signing an open letter together with other filmmakers including Jafar Panahi, Mohammad Rasoulof and Mostafa Al-Ahmad against police and special forces brutality.

Protests were then triggered by the death in custody on 13 September of Mahsa Amini, a young woman arrested by the morality police. This is a revolution uniting all the ethnic, religious, and social parts of the population; a revolution for a free and worthy life, liberated from the ruling of hateful autocrats who have used every tool for suppression, oppression and atrocity; from terror to prison and execution to suppress the people of Iran and to bury them and their dreams of a decent life.

We call on the Iranian authorities to immediately and unconditionally stop the use of any force and violence, to release all those arrested during the protests, and to allow the people of Iran to design the society they wish to live in. We encourage all film and culture institutions around the world to do the same.
