Het belangrijkste thema in Rappaports meest recente film is de discrepantie tussen de publieke figuur Rock Hudson - de ster, de Don Juan met zijn Hollywood-uitstraling - en zijn homoseksualiteit en privé-leven. Een acteur speelt Rock en geeft commentaar op een reeks sequenties uit Rock Hudson-films, van de hyperromantische en zoete films met Doris Day en Tony Randall tot de serieuzere rollen zoals die in films van Douglas Sirk. Rappaport maakt optimaal gebruik van videotechnieken door passages te vertragen, stil te zetten en opnieuw te onderzoeken en hierdoor gebaren en uitdrukkingen uit te vergroten tot mythische proporties. Hij construeert de persoonlijkheid van een publiek figuur die, bevrijd door de dood, met een berouwvol gevoel voor humor terugkijkt op zijn carrière. Zo laat hij 'Rock' over zijn rol in Pillow talk zeggen: 'It's okay to be gay as long as you're a straight pretending to be gay. But what if you're a gay actor passing for straight playing the role of a straight pretending to be gay? Whew!'De film is in de Verenigde Staten goed ontvangen. Armond White van Film Comment schreef: 'By travestying Hudson's trashy movies, Rappaport asserts non-insulting fantasy and personal, artistic integrity. And a better cinema.'
